Review of Micmacs (2009) by Simpática P — 01 Apr 2010
Hmmm, a film about a male version of Amelie Poulain and the arms industry... aehhhm, hmmm, how's that going to work?
All I can say, brilliantly!!!
Yes, it's the same director and to a large percentage the same cast as Amelie. And yes, it starts off similarly, with the main character losing a parent at a young age. But: circumstances force him to be a bit more social than Amelie so he's being adopted by a new family who will help him along the way.
But, this being a male version, Bazil's challenge is of a quite different kind and, for the boys, lots more action and explosions feature as well. ;).
Won't tell much about the story line, you really have to watch it. But again Jeunet and his team build in so many elements, show immense creativity and love for their project at every level, you will enjoy every minute of this adventure. A film about a serious subject matter that makes you laugh out loud, rout for those great characters, give you genuine smiles and comfort, make you feel happy and still hope for "oh, this should happen for real".
Best film I have seen in ages. (And no need for 3d ;) ).
