Review of Micmacs (2009) by Orlando F — 07 Jun 2010
Jeunet displays his cinematic fluency letting his beautiful pictures speak the volumes to which words can only aspire. Gorgeous imagery and a catchy hook. The antics of his capers are always fun and extremely well-paced. But the politics of the message may have gotten in the way, and while I certainly felt sympathetic to our protagonist, I'm not sure if I ever really connected with the movie. Very enjoyable from an intellectual vantage, but knowing how well he can pull my heart strings came away feeling a bit disappointed.
Fantastic Delicatessen reference, and honestly that may have done it in, where I'd been swept up by that story, I was more just along for the ride on this one. Fun ride though. I mentioned the beautiful frames, right?
