Review of Micmacs (2009) by Jj L — 21 Jun 2010
Annoying mishmash of repetitive and loose set-pieces that has no actual story or characters, just a bunch of overacted quirks. Nothing in the film feels genuine, everything is contrived and trying to be cutesy.
Jeunet has painted himself into the same corner as Tim Burton - nothing new to show or say, just the old mannerisms on constant and self-indulgent display, accompanied by overbearing music and underwhelming ideas.
Lead actor Dany Boon seems to be channelling 3rd Rock from the Sun's French Stewart imitating Chaplin.
