Review of Micmacs (2009) by Ola S — 10 Sep 2010
Nobody makes films like Jean-Pierre Jeunet and there's never any doubt about him being the creator. You see it from the first second from his special colors, his compositions and the actors being somewhat doll-like. These are sagas, often rather cruel, but this time it's mostly funny. Very funny.
Bazil's father is killed by a mine and Bazil gets a bullet in the head, but survives. He gets homeless, but is adopted by a very functional family literally living among the garbage. It's the murderer, the old canon king, "La Calculette", the woman with the flexible body. They start a private war against arms industry and a minister in the French government.
It's a playful and warm movie with two of the most special French actors there are, Dany Boon and Dominique Pinon. Every sequence is economized and there's not a second too much, or too little, for that matter.
Seldom 105 movie minutes pass this fast.
