Review of Micmacs (2009) by Anna B — 07 Jan 2011
Disappointing. Why make a children's film with sex and violence? Why tack on a weak message about the evils of arms trading? Why evoke your own invented style to tell the world how amazingly caring and socially conscious you are? Instead of making a real film about real people in bizarre situations, as he has before, he invents cartoons, clowns and mimes and puts them in a real situation, and it fits amazingly poorly.
I enjoyed myself while I was watching it but the more I thought about it the more sour the taste became in my mouth. Jeunet needs to change something, he is fast becoming redundant.
