Review of Micmacs (2009) by Andrew C — 26 Jun 2011
This is the best film I saw at South by Southwest this year- easily. Jeunet, like Tati and Chaplin before him, has a keen eye for the comedy of life, love and politics. The film is stylish and looks beautifully contemporary, but Jeneut tells his tale with classic storytelling techniques- concrete ways that really work.
I couldn't believe my eyes as each scene topped the next; inventive camera work and rich, colorful characters layer each other until the film becomes an extraordinary piece of circus lunacy. Exquisite.
