Review of Michael Collins (1996) by Angela M — 17 Aug 2007
A brilliant terrific film from neil jordan about the rise and fall of michael collins an ireland freedom fighter trying to fight for ireland's independance from england. Michael collins is played by the great actor liam neeson who keeps improving with every film he made after the powerful schindler's list. He plays the main character who ends up sending his fellow patriots to war against the english killing some of england's top politicians who dare to get in the way of his politics and freedom for his country. Julia roberts plays his grilfriend and delivers the worst performance in the film. Liam gains great support from american actor aidan quinn who plays michael's younger brother and ends up getting himself killed by his own people after he disagrees with michael collins. Alan rickman who plays their father who ends up going against his two sons as he tried to bring peace instead of war which michael started and Charles dance as one of the crooked politicians who ends up going against michael and killed. In the end as it says in history michael was killed by his own people and have always been remembered as one of the people the brought freedom for ireland. the music score is very good. The acting is superb and the action never stops. The only negative aspect is that it is not accurate as to what really happened and the movie becomes more of an action movie than the historical drama it was meant to be.
A powerful film worth watching just like J.F.K and Malcolm x.
