Review of Michael Collins (1996) by Thomas J — 19 Sep 2007
Awesome. I loved it. While not delving too deeply into the complicated politics that most of us non-Irish natives can't understand, it showed the Irish-Anglo conflict as far more than the simplistic Catholic vs.
Protestant squabble that so many make it out to be. The writing was great, the action was exciting, but sadly, I can't give this 5 stars for three reasons. First, Julia Roberts. Why? Oh why?! Ni'higgim! (Translation from Irish: "I don't understand.
" lol) Second, her terrible come-and-go accent. Third, Julia Roberts. :-/ But hey, Liam Neeson *and* Alan Rickman in the same movie? Reason enough to see it even if you're not an enthusiast for all things Irish like I am.
