Review of Michael Collins (1996) by John M — 25 May 2008
First saw this in a history lesson in my school days and it's stuck with me ever since. recently saw it again and was wow'd yet again. it's about michael collins funnily enough who gave birth to the i.
R.a. but was then used as a scapegoat by eamon de valera after bringing the british empire to its knees who sent him to see churchill and come back with the republic. unfortunately it was impossible to get and thats where the irish split came from.
the unionists and the republicans began to fight each other and the british must've been laughing at the time. it's a sad story but about a great figure in history who was virtually unknown to me until viewing this.
directed by neil jordan (also did the crying game and interview with the vampire) who uses his great storytelling talents to the fullest of his abilities. got some ace actors in it.... neeson, rea and quinn.
watch out for the black n' tans!
