Review of Michael Collins (1996) by James M — 18 Jul 2009
Who would have thought you could boil down such a complex Irish history into a pot boiler thriller? And not actually dumb it down? Well, Neil Jordan did and he pulled it off in this accessible, pulpy, funny, moving, romantic yet realistic and unrelenting portrait of a 'Jack the Lad' who became a freedom fighter, a rebel and a politician who won the admiration of his friends and enemies.
Neeson is on top form, Alan Rickman is a marvel and Julia Roberts would easily inspire you to sing, dance and take on your enemies! Great stuff. Nice version of 'She Moved Through the Fair', too on this one.
