Review of Michael Clayton (2007) by Alex D — 21 Jun 2010
A fabulous old-fashioned corporate thriller set in a very contemporary world. George Clooney is nearly perfect in the title role. Gilroy deals with corporate disillusionment with great tact in very complex settings.
Real life is not all black and white, an often spoken proverb depicted unapologetically by the director. Michael Clayton is any man working in a corporate setting as flawed and as insecure as any such person.
I especially love the movies of this kind that unfold in layers together with depth of characters involved in it. You will feel one with the Michael's struggle with his worldly problems and his conscience.
The story is terrific, director is surprisingly deft, actors are without exception superb, music is complementary, production values are good and cinematography is good as well. A very pertinent movie in today's time, and comprehensively engaging to boot.
