Review of Michael Clayton (2007) by Nate G — 12 Apr 2012
Michael Clayton is a very appropriately titled movie. I say this because even though there is a lot happening throughout the film, it's really just a George Clooney showcase. I personally found this to be quite unfortunate.
Aside from the fact that Clooney just is not very good, everytime something interesting happens the movie switches gears quickly and bores us to death with his very flat and unfelt performance. It's not that he was particularly terrible, but when you basically put his role under a microscope (which is pretty much what the film does) he just doesn't hold up.
Shwarzenegger had a greater emotional range in the terminator movies. Despite this point though, the movie remained interesting until the end, and thanks to some creativeness in direction, also remained somewhat suspenseful.
Michael Clayton was a pretty good movie, but it left me feeling the same way I feel when I think about any other George Clooney movie. Mainly- "I don't see what all the fuss is about." Also, look for an impressive performance from Tilda Swinton.
