Review of Michael Clayton (2007) by Japie S — 01 Jan 2013
"Michael Clayton" has one of the best-written screenplays of the modern era, yet it's not showy about it. Consider that opening monologue (delivered brilliantly by Tom Wilkinson), consider the first interview scene with Tilda Swinton's character and marvel at just how much we learn about the characters, the story and the film's corporate environment without ever feeling like we're being actively informed.
With this great a screenplay, the film was bound to be good, but the mesmerizing performances and captivating direction (bonus points for the ending credits!) make "Michael Clayton" a quiet masterpiece.
