Review of Miami Vice (2006) by Ed Q — 10 Jul 2009
Unfortunately "Miami Vice" has garnered a bad reputation, but I think it's merely a case of unsatisfied expectations. Michael Mann delivered a beautifully photographed and intelligent mood piece, and it was largely rejected.
The film borders on video art, and doesn't pander to the audience. Mann's hyperrealistic documentary approach curtails exposition, and drops the audience into the lives of two undercover detectives.
The patient viewer is rewarded with a visually alluring work steeped in lush atmosphere.
