Review of Miami Vice (2006) by Ivan K — 02 Sep 2009
Yes the movie is an epic fail in terms of story and the development of its characters (except for Naomi Harris), but the movie has the coolest vibe, the visuals are gorgeous and the gun sequences are show stoppers.
Colin Farrell just can't act, ive seen many of his movies, and aside from Phone Booth, he just doesn't have it, however I have yet to see Tigerland. Jaime Foxx is in his usual cool groove but nothing more.
Gong Li is strikingly beautiful but her accent is hard to understand sometimes. But Naomi Harris is a snapping live wire and I loved her performance in the movie. But the gun sequences really steal the show, slick and violent with jolts and all the night scenes in the movie have a visceral feel to them.
Michael Mann gives his usual great direction but I expected a lot more from this movie so I am a bit disappointed. Still its entertainment, just with Michael Mann, you expect a lot more. Thumbs up!
