Herzog's Bad Lieutenant is indeed different in tone from Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant, but as it turns out it's a pale shadow of "Miami Blues", a replica in tone, but also a much more unpredictable, brutal, and tender film, that covers most of the same themes and territory.
