Review of Mi America (2015) by Bruno K — 15 Oct 2015
Many great performances shed light on crimes against Hispanics and the complex web of society that perpetuates hate crimes and discrimination. As Ronaldo's past is unraveled along with the crime he is obsessed with, we wonder how Ronaldo has remained on ethical high ground.
There are many nuances to the characters in this movie. Robert Fountaine has built them from news stories and personal experiences and he effectively shows us there is good and bad in all people. That perspective allows us inside a community struggling to get ahead, while weighed down by its past, which can take several generations to unravel.
It is a story about immigrants, but it is also a story about ethics, love and family. Worth the price of admission.
