Review of Metropolitan (1990) by Joshua L — 19 Oct 2009
Witty, funny, deeply ironic film about young people in Manhattan high society. Whit Stillman's script is structured as a comedy of manners, and takes place in a world rarely seen in movies. It works because the characters ring true, and are universal, obsessing about love, and trying to "protect" themselves from their true feelings with fancy language and faux intellectualism.
Talky, but never boring.
