A sophisticated comedic film which follows a group of young New York debutantes in the upper east side of New York during the 1980s. The film is told from the point of view of Tom Townsend, a self appointed intellectual, who stumbles upon this group of high-class intellectual socialites.

Tom is from the west-side of New York and is not a person of money but the group excepts him essentially because of his intellectual prowess. As the film progresses Aubrey, one of the members of the group and an avid Jane Austen enthusiast, begins to form a crush on Tom while Charlie, another member of the group, is secretly in love with Aubrey.

Metropolitan paints a portrait of these high society young adults living in New York. Its like a snapshot in time. The script is fantastic to the point where I got completely wrapped up in the dialogue throughout the film.

The entire cast is great playing these young naive characters who are incredibly intellectual yet still emotionally fragile.
