Trip faces a world of chaos on a mission during a Metallica show.

Metallica have definitely gone for something new here with this concert recording - not only was it done (effectively) in 3D but they included a story and narrative in the mix as well - it involves Trip, a roadie (for lack of a better term) being sent to retrieve a bag during a sold out Metallica concert. What happens during this delivery turns his life upside down.

What Trip experiences I think is up to the audience to decide but it represented for me a world of chaos and anarchy with a lone horseman at the centre of it all. Plenty of special effects abound in these sequences and they look pretty good, it's only when they come into the concert arena they are a little less convincing.

I kinda wish Metallica had either decided to go with a full concert (in 3D) offering OR a movie with Metallica music accompanying it instead of the mish-mash we end up with. What results is a concert where songs are interrupted by scenes playing out in Trip's story. Enter Sandman is notably cut short for 'technical difficulties' and other songs don't get fully realised. Also, maybe I'm just a bit odd but I would think that since the movie was called 'Through the Never', perhaps the Metallica song of the same name would have made an appearance in the set list?

In any case, it's a decent effort and the 3D works well, placing you in the crowd or right next to the band members during their performance. Audio is flawless and fans will love it for that alone.
