Being a Metallica fan left me to think I would positively biased in my review of this movie, but the fact is this movie was great in its own ways for sure. I would like to start out by saying that it is visually one of the most stunning films I have ever seen.

The effects and lighting and editing really pull it all together and make it much more than just some concert film that made it to IMAX. Again, being a Metallica fan made me love the entire movie. Being able to watch that type of show so up close makes it worth all the while.

I must also say, that if every show by Metallica is that theatrical and interactive, they put on one of the best ones in the world. Some people that that theatricality among rock bands is stupid but I would like to hear someone say that to Alice Cooper.

When you look at the complete other side of the movie though with Dane DeHann, it may leave you a bit questionable but when you assess what has happened, it all makes sense in a way. The riots and violence that Trip experiences are due to the drugs but also act as a metaphor for how deep and intricate the power of thrash metal and the Metallica can go into us as fans.

The Duffel bag is never revealed and at first I was upset by that, because it is a staple to the story but in the end, you find that you don't even need to know what was in it. When a movie has the ability to make it all about an item, but in the end of that film, you don't even care about the item, that movie has balls and has created so much more substance, its impressive.

I am also impressed with DeHann. The kid has serious talent. I believe I counted right when he says two words in the whole film. Its laid over by Metallica and James Hetfield the whole time, so the whole thing just works in so many ways.

The key with concert films is also being able to make people forget its a concert film and show to fans who arent fans of the band that they should be and this movie does just that. You should see this movie.
