Review of Metallica: Some Kind of Monster (2004) by Thomas B — 25 Jan 2010
This is a great documentary which fans the world over will love. Rather than purely promoting the band, it shows them at their lowest point and how they recovered to make a fine album. The film makers did a wonderful job getting Dave Mustaine in to confront Lars Ulrich about being fired early on in the band's history, and there is heartfelt emotion as Mustaine describes how this has caused him pain and resentment ever since.
Furthermore, James Hetfield's battle with, and victory over, addictions give this documentary the edge over the many routine "rockumentaries" that are produced.
Well done Metallica for showing us the real you.
