Review of Metallica: Some Kind of Monster (2004) by Adam T — 18 May 2017
An interesting look at the inner-turmoil of metal gods Metallica during a transition phase where they are without a bass player, seeking counselling and appear to be imploding from within. The anchor of this documentary is singer James Hetfeild's decision to take a break from the band and deal with his alcohol addiction.
This decision- while clearly frustrating ego-maniacal drummer Lars Ulrich- proves to envigorate the band in the studio and is the impetus for their new album St Anger. All they need to do is hire a new bass player and tell their multi-million dollar psycho-therapist that he is no longer needed.
