Review of Metal: A Headbanger's Journey (2005) by Jesse O — 16 Jun 2006
This little documentary is about everything metal. Its fans, the culture, the enviroment, its roots from blues, sexuality, gender, religion, and anything else you can think of you'll find it here. It's a great documentary and it will educate people who know nothing about metal (and probably hate it) on why metal has such a dedicated fan base and what makes the fan love it so much.
The first half of the movie is basically looking into metal's history and roots. The second half is more serious. This film definitely has some really weird and crazy interviews. Mayhem's interview (Necrobutcher and Blasphemer) is insanse, first of all Necro does all the speaking all Blasphemer does is look and sometimes chuckles at Necro's comments which are "Fuck you, fuck them" and many more fucks thrown around.
It was funny seeing some drunk ass Norwegian trying to be serious yet failing miserably. Gaahl's (Gorgoroth) interview was pretty crazy/weird cause it was in a winery and Gaahl was drinking wine and he took a long time to answer the questions.
So it was weird. There's also a nice little mini-documentary on the Norwegian Black Metal scene and the church burnings that were done by some black metal artists and its effects on Norwegian society.
Also there's a longer version of Lemmy's interview which I thought was very funny so if you get the chance watch that longer interview.
