Review of Metal: A Headbanger's Journey (2005) by Yana A — 10 Jun 2008
There is probably something, I dont know, attractive about this movie because I watched it like 6 or 7 times, and my opinion about it changed somehow.
That dude, Sam Dunn, he is definitely mega passionate about metal, that's why this movie isn't boring. because it's like bare enthusiasm what him and his crew created.
Again, i'll repeat there are errors, like cradle of filth are from england, not scandinavia, and he messed up with the genres totally.and I dont remember exactly, but seems like he was wrong about varg vikernes too, but the job is terrific!i liked that metal musicians and himself did mention tritone, because even many metal listeners don't know that tritone made metal unique as well as bass.this part was awesome. I didnt like freaking glam metal. I bet all orthodox metalheads didnt like watching that either.
Dee snider is like my nightmare, I cannot stand him at all!!!! why did they invite him there?!
And lemmy, that old pervert, who cares about motorhead? I mean he was hilarious talking about groupies, there was something charming about him in that moment,so that even the camera people laughed, but he didnt say anything useful at all.
I was surprised Alice Cooper looked intelligent and I didnt feel hostile towards him.
Black sabbath were megaawesome!!!!!!!!!
I think I didnt pay attention to iron maiden interview at all, and dio is gay, he ruined black sabbath, but he was very easygoing in this movie.
I dont really like RATM, and Rob Zombie, but they knew what they were talking about and I do agree with the things they said about how people become metalheads, about the connection between metal and people's soul, that metal doesn't leave you indifferent and if you're a metalhead you will remain a metalhead.
Girls from "Kittie" made a very precise statement, I totally support them. But it would be cool to see their drummer too, she's like a bodybuilder.
Slipknot are fake, and everything they said was garbage.
Slayer's interview, I liked; you can actually understand what they are trying to say about religion, and that they aint satanic, I think tom araya is a prankster, and god doesn't hate us, it's just a cool name for a song.
Cannibal corpse, yes, I was surprised about them too, as much as I dont like their music as much I liked what they said in the interview though. but their artwork still sucks.
TheTrueNorwegianBlackMetal TROLLS should've corpsepainted themselves, because they didnt look satanic at all. and this part was the funniest, because they do not know what they fight for and what they need in this life.
The end was weird, just totally randomly weird, he might've chosen a better song but metallica's, like "roots bloody roots" or "revolution is my name", I mean, epic songs with a powerful message, but not metallica's!
And I wish there were more about thrash metal and underground scene. they didnt even say anything about sepultura, that's a disappointment. and instead all freaky glam clowns, it'd be better to interview phil anselmo, he's my favourite, I like listening to what he says, he actually makes some good, clever points.
