Review of Mesrine: Public Enemy #1 (2008) by Flora M — 12 May 2009
Part 2 of the Mesrine story continues straight on from where part 1 left off. Mesrine has now been branded 'public enemy number one' and this film sees him fuelling his ego, maintaining his position as a master criminal and the paranoia that comes with it.
It's a less dynamic film than part 1, with the story falling into a rather familiar pattern of bank job/capture/escape but again Cassel dominates, giving one of the best performances of his career and again, it's nicely shot throughout.
A French Goodfellas perhaps? Combined into one 4hr sitting, Mesrine really is THAT good!
