Review of Mesrine: Public Enemy #1 (2008) by Alan W — 05 Sep 2009
A fascinating and inevitably tragic conclusion to pt. 1. This is less non-stop action but more emotional/cerebral and therefore have a better dramatic arc. That means less thrills but more pensive and reflective (musings on how it will all end and ideas of whether he sees himself as a gangster or a revolutionary, for example).
Nevertheless, it is still entertaining and in some way, it is also more coherent as a movie as the it doesnt leave the viewer hanging. Ultimately and taken as a whole, the 2 movies represent an impressive achievement in putting this man's life on celluloid for people like me who had never heard of him to see and what an amazing life he had!
