Review of Mesrine: Public Enemy #1 (2008) by Aidan H — 19 Oct 2010
The conclusion to the Mesrine saga continues apace with the upscale criminal's dalliance with a new bird and some dodgy idealists providing the background to the violent mayhem. Cassell is once again mesmerising as the public's favourite gangster but also subtly portrays the inner deterioration of Mesrine's character resulting from continuously dodging the filth.
As in the first chapter, brisk editing and direction, coupled with dynamic musical scoring and tone-perfect art direction, thrust the film forward towards its bloody and satisfying finale. Excellent work.
