Review of Mesrine: Public Enemy #1 (2008) by Ws W — 03 Dec 2010
An example showing all the common drawbacks of French movies have had: the director/writer concern only what they are so eager to tell you instead of delivering a "proper" story. Superficial in both characters set-up & story telling, characters just in/out from/to nowhere (although with all-stars cameo).
Lost in selecting what to keep & what to let go which makes the film too loose & disjointed in construction, plus overlong (the film actually should be merged from 2 parts into 1 with lots of trimmings to do).
And the 2nd part is getting even way more confusing than the 1st. Vincent Cassel is steady as usual but not really that impressive in all.
