Review of Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983) by Ferna S — 26 Apr 2009
One of the most moving and intelligently acted films I have ever seen. Bowie is, simply, outstanding, in a role that you would expect more highly considered actors to struggle with. Sakamoto is excellent as the young idealistic Captain Yonoi and as for Tom Conti, well, he acts his socks off for me in another difficult but excellently written part.
The soundtrack is haunting.
