It's a Christmas film without the snow or the yuletide. It's a whisper of a film with an amazing all-star cast. I couldn't believe I hadn't noticed it before. It's more of an understated classic than an all-out influential film.
On the other hand, the Japanese director's perspective on the Japanese imperialist mindset is handled unlike any other J film I've seen.
