Review of Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983) by Dane A — 13 Feb 2010
Another great war film, and it doesn't involve shooting or blowing things into pieces. Based on the novel The Seeder and The Sower, the story sets in Java, inside a P.O.W camp. A British officer develops a strange friendship with his Japanese counterpart, while the commanding officer of the camp begins to have an infatuation towards a certain rebellious prisoner played by David Bowie.
A different way to look upon the machismo of war.
