Review of Mercury Rising (1998) by Stuart B — 06 Apr 2008
What starts out as a potentially good political thriller quickly denegrates into a film that looks like it was produced by teenagers hoping to top the latest You Tube craze.
What happened to character development? People come and go in this film without any rhyme or reason especially a young woman Willis decides he can trust 100% with the life of the autistic boy he is protecting. What is worse is that she is willing to open her apartment to Willis and the boy at 2am and helps to bring the boy to the Witness Protection program sight unseen.
The film is not all bad, but the plot has more loopholes that it becomes ridiculous. As if the production ran out of money and they had to cut cost by cutting scenes.
Great music by John Barry though.
