Review of Mercury Rising (1998) by Erik L — 02 Jun 2008
Ok now, I'm not the one to not realize that a movie sometimes need to deviate from what is realistic to make an interesting film. But that is no excuse to make a flick this stubbornly, ingorantly stupid. The script writers might have wanted to read up on cryptography, the behavior of autistic children, and well, maybe just get out a bit more. So the USA puts national security in the hands of a code that wouldn't be safe enough to use to login to this very site? Oooookey. And is that kid supposed to be autistic? It's ridiculous. And what the hell was Peter Stormare doing there? He doesn't even have a line, he just appears, walks around looking mean and gets killed with no explanation or anything. The ending fight was one of the most confusing and anticlimactic ones I have ever had the displeasure to watch.
It gets one star solely for the introductive shootout scene which actually almost had me entertained for 15 seconds.
