Review of Méphisto (1931) by Kevin M — 15 Oct 2007
Truly one of my favourite movies, this mesmerizing tale is nothing less than a synthesis of mankind and its chief dilemma. Shakespeare, Goethe and Nietzsche explained the charades of power and liberty, Klaus Mann updated them, and Istvan Szabo made a magnificent movie out of it.
Brandauer has the role of his life here.
