Review of Men, Women & Children (2014) by Kelvin W — 11 Oct 2014
This is a film defined by its bit and pieces rather than the whole. The characters are seemingly caricatures, yet the film doesn't consistently create the tone of a black comedy (the narration is, in a word, odd).
What's left is an admirable attempt by Academy Award nominee Jason Reitman who sets higher ambitions than he can deliver. One minute the film is saying something about infidelity, and then it moves on to psychosexual analysis and parental control.
It's somewhat interwoven by technology, but it gets so muddled that you just end up trying to empathize with the characters onscreen instead of taking away something new thematically.
