Review of Men, Women & Children (2014) by Brad E — 30 Jan 2015
I love Jason Reitman's films. I've enjoyed every one of them, and this one is no exception. I'm a bit perplexed as to why this is being struck so hard by the critics. Most falsely tag the film as being about "the evils of the internet" (Peter Travers), when it just isn't (and Reitman also says so in interviews).
It illustrates how technology is interwoven into our lives, but overall many familiar struggles of both adolescence and adulthood still remain. Some critics did get it I think (Richard Roeper gave the film an A).
Not to mention, Kaitlyn Dever was so good in this. Having just seen her in Short Term 12 a few weeks ago as well, I am really impressed with her as an actress. The rest of the cast is great too - Adam Sandler's only viable performance since Funny People.
Overall, I really enjoyed this - Reitman completely nails what it's like to be a teen in this era.
