Review of Men, Women & Children (2014) by Dawdlingpoet — 22 Nov 2021
This is definitely an example of cringe-comedy, a bit like American Pie, so suffice to say its quite lewd. The comedy is, at times, more about the parents than the teenagers. On another topic, the fact that the teens are asked to find people who remember the day of 9/11, to talk about their memories of it, made me feel somewhat old, considering I remember well where I was at the time and to think there are teenagers who were too young to remember that, is a little depressing but thats a whole other issue(!). Given Adam Sandler is in this film, I suppose I should have had pretty low expectations of it but he doesn't play the main character, indeed there isn't really a main character as such as both the teens and the parents are shown perhaps as much as each others. I thought that overall this is more of a drama than an outright comedy, as towards the end the plot does become quite serious, with the negative consequences of social media, peer pressure and so on being shown. Trust is one of the key themes in this film I'd say.
I would recommend this film, yes.
