Review of Men of Honor (2000) by Abel F — 25 Mar 2008
Men of Hono(u)r is quite simply one of the most moving films of all time. One of the true stories that is an inspiration to anyone who reads/watches it. As well as this, it covers so many important subjects of the time not limited to race relations.
A lot of smaller nods are made to the transformation of etiquette in the Navy as well. Gooding Jr. and De Niro are simply fantastic in this film and just bounce of each other on screen. One of the things I love about this film is that the story is powerful for both men.
The fact that Carl can change a racist man like Sunday into a respectful and overall good man is fascinating. The soundtrack is another thing that stands out in this movie, powerful orchestral tracks ad so much emphasis, especially in the final scene.
Brilliant film.
