Review of Men in Black II (2002) by Patrick V — 28 Jun 2014
MIB2 had a very interesting style that grows on me over time. Before its time, a little cartoony but in a good, visceral way. Also uses the use of gadgets in clever gags to perfection that resembles Tony Stark or something out of the Hangover.
Just very clever use of the year 2002 to make almost an anti 2002 like nothing we have ever seen. I mean it's obviously not the greatest movie like Harry Potter or even Super 8 or Green Lantern but it's still almost better that way/to be a kind of millennial grunge inspired kind of movie, again, the opposite of what "works" in 2002, so this movie transcends hard work and payoff.
Great use of slick scenery of the dark cities to almost make it all about the gags and gadgets, creating a modern style movie with lots of heart in a very microscopic era (90's).
