Review of Men in Black II (2002) by Josh P — 04 Aug 2012
The successful and effective formula of the first film somehow caused the film makers to think that all they had to do was make a carbon copy instead of a sequel. Unfortunately, if repeatedly making spare house keys teaches us anything, it's that the copy never fits quite as well as the original.
There is nothing innovative about this film, which is an important ingredient that made the first one work so well. Even Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones don't seem quite as dedicated this time around.
Greater emphasis is placed on some of the more minor characters introduced in MIB, but it doesn't make them any more memorable. There are a few minor thrills, but the movie itself is completely forgettable.
