Review of Men in Black II (2002) by David B — 13 Nov 2012
Large budget notwithstanding, the movie is such a blip on the year's radar screen that it's tempting just to go with it for the ride. But this time, the old MIB label stands for Milder Isn't Better.
Like the first film, the special effects took over the movie, with exception of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones bringing a great chemistry of witty comedy but this near pointless sequel almost loses that and it's the amazing special effects that takes over and carries the film, most notably though is Tommy Lee Jones, who, in this has to regain his memory (If you've seen the first film, you'll understand why :P) and is alot more funnier here than he was in the first film, with yet again, perfect comical timing and proves he can be a comedy actor.
Will Smith is K who in a sense is Will Smith, there's no problem with the actors but are just second best compared to the special effects. A boring plot, something about the end of the world (Sort of, I was zoning in and out) brings nothing new to the film.
Still, it's a watchable sequel and like any other sequel, about 95% it tries to be bigger and better but fails, only slightly though. It's just, had the first film didn't exist, this may have been a brilliant sci-fi comedy but it's not, it's between ok and good.
Partly funny but watch it for it's special effects, otherwise, don't waste your time with this.
