Review of Men in Black II (2002) by Danny O — 29 Sep 2014
Men in Black 2 is a sequel that tries to be even better than the original, but falls flat. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are still very good. Unlike the first, most of the jokes are misses, though those that do hit are amusing, particularly the humor coming from a talking pug.
I liked the idea of the agency being taken over with Smith and Jones on the run, but the plot borrows heavily from the original, giving the audience deja vu. The villain was weak, but some funny jokes and cool action made this movie bearable.
The ending is fun, and this movie isn't a disaster, just far inferior to the first one. The jokes don't always hit, and it never became anything more than a rip off of the original. Men in Black ll gets 2/5 stars (C-).
