Review of Men in Black II (2002) by Ellen . — 23 Aug 2011
As the first Men In Black film was enjoyable, this one is a pretty poor conceived sequel to a fairly good movie. The film is disappointing because it the potential to being something good, but it failed to capture the fun of the original film.
I felt that this sequel was rushed, and lacked the creative elements that made the first film fun. The film is very silly, and not in a good way. The characters presented in the film are terrible, and some ideas are recycled from the first film.
This is just a poorly made sequel to a good film. Either a sequel is good or isn't. Men in Black II is a bad sequel with bad performances. This sequel is lazy, uninspired garbage, and if you've enjoyed the first one, pass up on this one, because there's simply nothing going on that's good.
In fact, the film is quite boring and it doesn't do anything good whatsoever. I think it's a real shame because they could've done something really good with the ideas in this sequel, but they fall through halfway through the film.
The cast here are wasted and most of them are plainly awful. One performance that's very bad is that of Rip Torn, I was watching him go, and wonder what the hell he was doing. Men in Black II is a terrible film with a bad script, bad acting and a semi decent plot.
If it was reworked a few times, I'm sure this film wouldn't have been as bad as it is, but it's a much uninspired, boring sequel to a good film. If you like the first film, pass up on this trash, you'll save your time.
