Review of Men in Black 3 (2012) by Rudy M — 29 Jul 2014
In this third installment of Men In Black, Agent J (Will Smith) has to travel back in time to save the life of his partner Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones).
The first fifteen minutes of this movie I seriously sat there watching and thinking: "Damn, is this going to go on for the full length of it? I hope not!" Fortunately my prayers were heard and it got slightly better from the moment J dives back in time. Coincidence or not, but that's basically where the screen time ends for Jones and Josh Brolin comes in as his younger version.
The part of the story that plays in 1969 is mildly entertaining. The villain (Boris The Animal, played by Jemaine Clement) is as one dimensional as a line on paper, be it in 2012 or 1969. It's little more than chase-and-rescue, but I wasn't as annoyed at the end as I was at the start.
Production value is average. Some clear green screen-scenes and subpar (for 2012) special effects, but nothing really annoying in that department.
Pros: It gets better towards the end.
Cons: The first fifteen minutes are a serious drag.
Verdict: Okay.
