Review of Memphis Belle (1990) by David G — 26 Aug 2008
A little overly-dramatic at times (cranking the wheel down by hand Just In The Nick Of Time) but overall an intense and moving account of a bomber crew's final mission - based on real events. You get a great sense of the cramped conditions and hectic combat and of course the brotherly comradery that develops between young men at war.
Good for a game of spot-the-familiar-face too - David Strathairn, John Lithgow, Billy Zane, Harry Connick Jr., Eric Stoltz, Matthew Modine... Even Steven Mackintosh of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels fame makes an appearance as Stan the Rookie.
Chill Win-ston!
