Review of Memories of Murder (2003) by Eduardo C — 07 Feb 2007
A typical serial-killer film which eventually turns out to be anything but. taking place in a small town with a police force that is not able to deal with the situation.
The first half is littered with humor, some subtle, most not, and while not particularly profound it is never less than entertaining.
During the second half, however, all bets are off, and the main characters are put through the wringer as their obsession to catch the killer mounts. The ending is absolutely haunting.
This movie does not attempt to rewrite the genre, and it is far from unconventional, but there is much more going on that what is apparent at surface level and it is a very rewarding experience.
