Review of Memories of Murder (2003) by Daniel T — 31 May 2010
The best Korean film ever made period. Bong-Ho Joon is currently the most talented director in Korea at the moment.
Based on a frightening true story of a serial rapist reign of terror during the 1986 military dictatorship. 2 cops investigate to reveal the true identity of the rapist, but find no clues as the body count rises & tension & fear builds in the city.
With a top cast (especially the perfect pairing of Kang-Ho Song & Sang-Kyung Kim), a great story, beautiful cinematography, also with the fact of being pretty scary, funny & very entertaining makes this an amazing film.
Oh & the ending....the infamous ending......hands down the best film closer I have ever seen, it works so well yet chills you to the core. it leaves you with an emptiness & burns the film into the back of your mind....this is the kind of things classics are made of, where every image, sound & word is printed in your mind.
I will never forget this movie.....hope you all like it as much as I do. seek this brilliant thriller out & enjoy.
