Review of Memories of Murder (2003) by Steve H — 18 Apr 2012
It's a good movie but not one I would be watching over and over again. It's suppose to feel dated - it's set in 1986, so no mobile phones or DNA. Congrats on the lack of blood and for not actually showing the girls being murdered - Quite right, this is about a criminal investigation not the latest slasher/horror.
The way one policeman kicked around his suspect didn't surprise or bother me in the least - we all know that sort of thing goes on. Apart from that the film wasn't really violent. I didn't mind the ending (i won't give it away) and most of it was interesting without being anything special.
The photography, especially at the beginning, gave the movie something different from the usual cop stuff - but I i didn't notice the music apart from a dramatic chase scene. All in all it's above average.
...although I might have been a little generous giving it a good three stars.
