Review of Memories of Murder (2003) by Richard S — 13 Feb 2008
I first heard about this in an English film magazine. Strange that when I read about it I may have no idea I'd come and work in Korea one day and not a million miles from where the events of this true story takes place! Which is worrying as it describes the events surrounding Korea's first serial killer!! Credit goes to my favourite Korean actor Song Gang Ho who I think plays his finest role here.
Of course he's helped by a great script which carefully describes 1980's South Korea which was under military rule. The political situation meant the police where heavily underfunded to deal with such a terrible situation.
Even if you have no interest in Korea as a country this is still an amazing and shocking true crime movie.
